Speth Zombie Family Session | National City

Nick and Monicca are not your typical Mom & Dad when it comes to parenting their kids Noah, Kendal, and “Kat.”

As a military family, the five serve their community with great dedication but when you walk into their home, it looks like an art store bursting at the seams. Strongly in favor of all creative arts, they tackled their zombie family session with a spark that I was happy to embrace. Such a beautiful family to work with, their easy going, fun personalities were perfect for this creative zombie family session.

Mom, Dad, and the three youngesters chose every day clothing for their choices to lend an aire of lifelike portrayal of the coming “Zombie Apocalypse.” Reflective of both their laid back, grunge style and the room the images would grace after the session, these outfits left room for plenty of running, brain-munching, hugs and laughter without sacrificing the love.

Since these beautiful portraits will appear through out the house, I advised them to go with a  canvas grouping to reflect the casual but wired dynamics of their family and to also to tell a story. Edgy yet warm, these finished images share the close bonds of a moment with special people who understand each other, and who will reflect on this experience for many years to come!

Grandma asked if we were “devil worshipers” because shes a little old fashioned in thinking that family photos should be done very prim and proper.  To be fair she’s not much of a zombie lover.  But we are a unique family and wanted photos that catered to our specific likes and needs.  Zombies, sword fighting, mad scientists, all imaginative play that my family enjoys and we felt should be captured.   I often find my children in the hall admiring our family photos. Its heartwarming to know that with Ellyn’s help we have created some really fun and lasting memories that the children will cherish for years to come.

Ive also worked with Ellyn as an assistant on her more complex sessions.  Its really fun and adventurous to work with her and see the passion she has for each individual set up.  It can be challenging to figure out a unique concept that is personalized for your family.  I wanted photos and art that you can look at and see my family dynamic.  Something that easily shows the fun and passion we have for each other.  Something that says “Yes, this is the Speth family.”  Ellyn was wonderful when it came to bringing our ideas to life.  She was willing to work with any ideas we came up with and had fun and interesting ideas of her own when we got stumped.  She helped us bring photos into our home that I can proudly display.  That my children genuinely love and had fun making. The photo shoots with Ellyn have been an experience that the whole family enjoyed.  The  children were more cooperative and happy because she helped foster their enthusiasm by encouraging  them to be more involved in the creative process. We are looking forward to future sessions. Our time with Ellyn has been well worth the investment.
